Machinery Industry Eyes New Markets
by İsmail Somalı

The machinery sector, which exports 60 percent of its products to the EU and the USA, closed 2021 with an export figure exceeding 20 billion dollars, thanks to its ability to respond quickly to demands and product quality in the post-pandemic period. Stating that the sector increased by around 7 percent when the figures for the first three quarters were examined and reached an export capacity of over 18.5 billion dollars despite the Russia-Ukraine war experienced at the beginning of 2022, the energy crisis experienced in Europe, problems in the global supply chain and the fluctuation in the exchange rate experienced in Turkey, high costs in financial resources and the increase in operating expenses, MÜSİAD Machinery Sector Board stated that the machinery manufacturing sector will not be able to show the performance of the first half of 2022 due to the high inflation felt in the world, problems experienced in the global supply chain and the economic contraction in the European Region in the first half of 2023. Somalı said, "However, there will not be a serious contraction in the negative direction in our sector. Serious measures will be taken against the contraction before the presidential elections to be held, incentive packages and state supports will provide liveliness in the market. However, the period until the election will create stagnation in the market and business people may resort to wait-and-see for their high-volume investments until the election."
